Mira eCommerce Case Study

Mira is a US-based femtech company making an at-home hormone monitoring device. The product sits at the intersection of health technology, fertility tracking, and data-driven self-care.

Business Challenge

When I joined the project, the website didn't communicate what made Mira different or why the premium price was justified. Mira's unique value simply wasn't coming through on the website.

Competitors were simpler, cheaper, and easier to understand.

On top of that, a poorly communicated subscription model was directly impacting revenue — driving up refund rates, cancellations, and support costs.

Problem

In the previous design, users didn’t realize that purchasing the product also started a monthly subscription. This caused a spike in refund requests and cancellations.

Solution

I redesigned the purchase block to clearly separate two options — “One-time purchase” and “Subscribe & Save.”

Making the subscription model explicit significantly reduced user confusion and post-purchase complaints.

Problem

The previous design took a one-size-fits-all approach, failing to address users’ specific questions or emotions. Many felt confused or even “broken” when their hormone data didn’t match textbook patterns.

Solution

My redesign was aimed to normalize diverse cycles — including anovulatory, PCOS, and regular ones — and added educational blocks with hormone charts that clearly explain results for both fertility and hormone health.

This helped users understand product, reduced confusion, and built confidence in their purchase proces.

Every decision in this project was grounded in user data, support ticket analysis, and JTBD framework

Jobs to be done framework

I applied the JTBD methodology to uncover the deeper motivations behind user behaviors.

Rather than focusing solely on features or actions, this approach reframes user needs as “jobs” — the progress users seek to make in specific situations.
These insights represent just a sample of the complete JTBD set identified in the process.

What I Learned

Emotional jobs are key behavioral drivers — often more than functional ones. In domains like health and well-being, users prioritize emotional outcomes such as reassurance, trust, and a sense of control. Designing for these emotional jobs is essential to building engagement and long-term product loyalty.
